This record group encompasses the records of the predecessor subsidiary institutions to Susquehanna University, most notably the Missionary Institute, which was founded in 1858 and became Susquehanna University in 1895. The Susquehanna Female College, sister institution to the Missionary Institute, operated 1858 to 1872 on Market Street in Selinsgrove. The preparatory school, later called the Academy, was an outgrowth of the preparatory program of the Classical Department of the Missionary Institute, and was operated as a college-preparatory high school from 1895 to 1925.
