Scope and Contents

Beta Rho Epsilon was a local fraternity founded on the campus of Susquehanna University in 1965. In May 1969, they became a colony of the national fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa. These records span that five-year period, beginning with the earliest organization of the fraternity and ending with their official acceptance of the colony offer from Phi Kappa Sigma.

The materials consist largely of handwritten records, with the greatest part being the minutes taken during executive board meetings. There are also partial financial records, in the form of members' payment records and carbon-copy receipt books, scattered items relating to social events, a guest book signed by all who visited the fraternity house, and a scrapbook of photographs.

Custodial History

The Delta Hexaton chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, the successor of the local Beta Rho Epsilon fraternity, was suppressed by the university in 2009, at which time David Leeds collected historical items and records which had been left in the fraternity house. He stored them until May 2011, when Lowell Leitzel retrieved the items and brought them back to his home in Selinsgrove. Leitzel then donated the majority of the surviving records to the University Archives in 2011, retaining a small number of items, principally relating to the history of Beta Rho Epsilon, which he donated to the Archives in 2022.
